The New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education Scholarship Award Criteria

The New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education awards $500 renewable scholarships each semester to New Mexico college Juniors and Seniors who have been accepted into an approved Bilingual Education Teacher Education Program in a New Mexico college or university.

CRITERIA FOR APPLICATION AND SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
  1. Candidate must be a Junior or Senior in a New Mexico university bilingual education teacher preparation program. Appropriate documentation will be required to ensure that the candidate is enrolled in such a program.

  2. Candidate must have a GPA of 3.0 or better for initial consideration and for renewals.

  3. Candidate must reapply by the appropriate deadline for
    consideration each semester.

Semester Application/Renewal Deadline
Summer Application or renewals must be submitted by May 1
Fall Application or renewals must be submitted by July 1
Spring Application or renewals must be submitted by October 1



Candidate must submit by the appropriate deadline:
  • The Scholarship Application Form

  • Two letters of recommendation

  • A written essay in Spanish or a Native American Language, outlining their reasons for entering the field of Bilingual Education

  • Current university transcripts
