While the NMABE Board found it necessary to postpone the NMABE State Bilingual Conference, we decided not to change the date of the State Spanish Spelliing.  This event will be held as planned on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque.  Please make plans to send your Spanish Spelling Bee winner to Albuquerque on this date.

Spelling Bee Booklet

We are in the process of developing a new list of words for the State Spanish Spelling Bee.  The list will be ready in time for your winners to study before the state event but may not be ready for your use at the local level.  If this is the case then we ask that you either use the word list in the old booklet or develop your own list.  How you determine your local winners is a local decision.

We do recommend that you follow the rules and guidelines outlined in the spelling bee booklet.

The new word list is being developed by Fernando Martin from the Spanish Resource Center.  He tells me that I should have the list by the end of October.  It will take me another few weeks to transfer that to a booklet ready for publication.  The new booklet will be ready for download in January, 2009.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. My email address is nmabe@suddenlink.net and my phone number is 575-309-3599.
